Interested in Joining JLCG?

The Journal of Law & Civil Governance at Texas A&M extends its membership opportunity to all Texas A&M Law School JD students, regardless of their academic year.

Typically, first-year law students are invited to begin their involvement as junior staff editors. Editors play a crucial role in meticulously verifying article citations, ensuring they align with the Journal’s internal stylebook and legal citation format. Each semester, editors typically undertake three to four editing assignments, with a timeframe of fourteen days allocated for each task.

Exceptional performance in these initial assignments may result in an invitation to serve as a Board Editor for the following year. Promotion considerations encompass a range of factors, including overall editing proficiency, attention to detail, familiarity with the Bluebook, and a demonstrated commitment to the Journal’s mission.

For 2Ls and transfer students, opportunities for Board Editor positions are available. Board editors oversee and review the citation work of staff editors, conduct in-line editing of article text, and provide technical edits for article footnotes. Board Editors often progress to become Executive Board Editors and join the JLCG Upper Masthead as 3Ls. Decisions regarding Board Editor positions are made by the Executive Board, taking into account prior journal experience and performance in a tailored editing competition. Additionally, these students are encouraged to serve as editors and remain eligible for promotions later in the academic year.
